Dr. Ana María Pineda, R.S.M., is a member of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, and a graduate of the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago (M.A.) and the Pontifical University of Salamanca, Spain (S.T.D.).
Professor Pineda taught on the faculty at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and also served as Director of its Hispanic Ministry Program. She is a founding member of the prestigious Hispanic Theological Initiative that supports Latino/a doctoral theological graduate studies, and is the past president of the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the United States.
In 2021, La Comunidad of Hispanic Scholars of Religion presented Dr. Pineda the Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to Latinx theology. She is currently Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Santa Clara University.
Ana María, a native of El Salvador, was raised in the United States. On a family visit to El Salvador, she had the privilege of a personal meeting with Archbishop Saint Óscar Romero. Her family is related by marriage to that of the late Fr. Blessed Rutilio Grande. In 2016, she authored the internationally acclaimed book Romero & Grande: Companions on the Journey (2016).
